Trellis was William Morris very first wallpaper pattern. He designed this in 1862 with inspiration from his own rose trellises at Red House. His architect, Philip Webb, was an avid sketcher of plant and animal life. He assisted by drawing the birds as Morris felt insufficient to the task.
